Home and Garden To-Do for April

April showers can bring flooded basements if your grading is improper or you have other drainage problems. Check your basement for moisture and deal with any problems promptly.

In the garden, now's a good time to overseed your lawn.

Plant vegetables in one-to-two-week intervals from now until July to extend your harvest; especially lettuce, radish, spinach, and beets.

Plant summer-flowering bulbs and hardy flowers such as pansies, calendula, and alyssum.

Divide and replant perennials that have grown too large. Remove dead flower-heads from daffodils and tulips.

It's still a good time to prune roses, plant shrubs, and prune or plant evergreens and trees.
