Home and Garden To-Do for March
Check your furnace filter!
As temperatures warm up, review your thermostat and humidifier settings. You may be able to save a little money or achieve a more comfortable indoor environment with some adjustments.
Even if the weather feels warm, another frost is still possible, so don't jump ahead of schedule!
Start pruning roses, hedges, summer-flowering shrubs, and shade trees, but not Birch or Maple.
Raking your lawn in March is usually premature. The ground is still soft, which makes it easy to damage the grass roots if you rake this early.
Once the ground is workable, start planting early vegetables. If you didn't start your seeds indoors, garden centers will have seedlings as early as is practical.
Start your first fertilization for lawns, vegetable gardens, and flowerbeds.
Plant shrubs, evergreens, roses, and trees.
