Home and Garden To-Do for November

Before you shut off the outside water and the frost sets in, give evergreens a thorough soaking to help them get through the winter, especially those near the house foundation.

Put up Christmas lights (even if you don't want to turn them on just yet, it's a good idea to put them up when weather is more accommodating).

Shut off outside taps and drain them.

Check the batteries in your smoke alarms.

Wrap all pyramidal evergreens with burlap to help against the frost, and hill up all roses.

As long as there is no frost in the ground, you can do any last-minute planting of bulbs, bare-root plants and container plants, along with the necessary fertilizing.

Do a final cut of the lawn, but only if it is at least two-to-three inches high.
