noun (plural: brokers of record)

A broker who is legally responsible for the conduct of a real estate brokerage.

The broker of record is responsible for ensuring that all salespeople and brokers at the brokerage comply with the law, and that the brokerage keeps its records properly.

Each brokerage has exactly one broker of record, regardless of how many branch offices the brokerage may have.
