leaching bed

noun

Part of a septic system that percolates water into the ground.

The leaching bed is a series of perforated pipes, arranged side-by-side underground (usually a couple of feet apart). Each pipe is long enough to allow the water inside to percolate into the ground.

Water enters the leaching bed from the overflow of the septic tank.
