holding tank
A tank that holds waste water from a house. Holding tanks are used where a regular septic system cannot be installed because of ground restrictions. For example, when near a lake, or when a structure is built on top of rock. Unlike a septic system, a holding tank does not empty into the ground, and therefore must be regularly pumped.
