Synonyms: row house, attached house, townhouse

A type of construction where several homes share adjoining walls. Normally there are not more than eight in a row. A special type of townhouse is the quadruplex, where four homes are arranged in a square. Each home in a quadruplex shares two walls, each wall with a different home. (Contrast with detached and semi-detached.)
