amortize

verb (amortizing, amortized)

To spread out the repayment of a loan over time.

The total amount of time taken to repay the loan is called the amortization period. The amortization period is not necessarily the same as the loan term.

A mortgage loan is typically amortized for a long period of time, such as 25 years, and repaid with regular blended payments.
