posted rate

noun

An interest rate that a lender posts publicly.

A posted rate is similar to the sticker price of a car. Just as the car can be bought for a lower price if you negotiate (or simply ask), the loan can be had for a lower interest rate, known as the preferred rate.

Posting a higher rate to the public makes the preferred rate look more attractive when it is revealed to the borrower.
