Save Money and Keep Warm

Posted November 1st, 2009 under money matters.

When it comes to heating your home in the winter, one of the most overlooked ways to save money is by using your ceiling fan.

We generally think of the fan as a cooling device, because we use it in summer to circulate conditioned air and create a pleasant breeze. However, the fan is also useful for keeping warm in the winter. As long as you keep the speed setting on low, the fan will push warm air down from your ceiling without creating a cooling breeze.

Using this trick, you'll be able to set your thermostat lower and save a few dollars. If you live in a home with a gas fireplace, a ceiling fan can reduce your heating costs even more due to the additional warm air in the room.
