Home Staging - is it Worthwhile?
Posted April 15th, 2008 under smart selling, myths and truths.
“Home staging” is the latest trend in marketing your home, and is becoming more prevalent.
You could compare it to dressing up when going out, only here we are “dressing up” the home to attract a higher selling price and or a shorter time on the market.
Does staging work? Yes! A newly-decorated home is always attractive to a buyer. But is staging worth the cost? Only when it substantially increases the value of your home — that is, beyond the amount you spend to stage the home in the first place.
Most often, homes that suffer from age and accumulated furnishings will benefit greatly from a make-over. However, one needn't spend thousands on new furniture or store the old furniture and rent staging furniture. The most influential improvements — cleaning ,organizing, rearranging and minor repairs — can be achieved on your own at very little cost, simply by following the advice of an experienced Realtor. Though staging brings with it the elation of seeing one's home re-born, in terms of sale price and selling time, it can often be a matter of “spend more to get more”.
