Post-Winter Checkups

Posted March 28th, 2010 under renovations and repairs.

With the snow gone, it's time to check the house for winter damage. Start by checking the foundation for any new or widening cracks, and check the ground outside to ensure it is graded away from the foundation to prevent flooding.

Next, check the eaves troughs for any signs of having been pried away by ice, and clean out any leaves. Check the roof for missing or broken shingles.

Finally, check the caulking around windows and doors and make a mark wherever re-caulking is needed. Also check for signs of damage to paint and make note of any touch-ups that are needed.
